For example: The Tokyo stock market succumbed to the pressure of rally in crude oil prices. The Nikkei 225 Index closed lower at 13, 973.73 points last Friday, recording a week- on- week loss of 515.71 points, or 3.56 per cent.

Japan imports oil and because there was a sharp rally in the price of oil this week the reult is negative for them domestically. The toyota situatuon probably contributed.

Commodity prices sometimes can also effect the prices of other products for instance jet fuel, plastics, medicine, chemicals, glass, CD's & DVD's, tires, etc since oil can be made into so many products. This in turn can be a downer in the stock market especially if oil prices rise too much. Japan general exports to the world and transportation costs will go up making all products go up in price or companies losing money.
