Thomas, that would be a "Bear " market, as opposed to a "Bull " market when stocks are steadily increasing. A bull market is an expression of investor confidence and optimism, while a bear market is reflective of investor fear and/ or pessimism. They are terms develped to express trends in the market. In your mind, picture a bull as being snortin', front hooves dancin', head down and ready to run fullout. Then picture a slooow moving, lazy ol' bear. Those mental images will help you to remember which is which.
