Question: Factors for an investors would take into account when estimating future net dividends of a company?

A company can change the dividends it pays at any time. While they will resist lowering the dividend, it does happen (a lot of banks have had to slash their dividends because of the recent crisis). If the company starts to earn less, the price of the stock will go down, but eventually the dividend will have to go down as well.
