New to investing. so now what?

Question: New to investing. so now what?

(Posted by: Chick on 2010-03-11 21:00:54)

Ok. I just opened an Etrade account with $500 kind of expecting to not know what I'm doing and lose it. I'm totally new to investing. Any specific advice on what to do with such a small amount for now? Stock, options, bonds, mutual funds ???

Buying stock requires research and dedication. If you don't know about stocks then you shouldn't risk your money taking wild guesses which to invest in. Put your money in a solid mutual fund.

Just start playing with it, buy and sell and do all kinds of trading. by doing it you will actually learn much faster than just reading about it. on the same time start reading and educating your self about investments. this is a very good web site to start with: investopedia.com/ university/ buildingblocks.asp also start watching Cnbc and Bloomberg to get a sense of how the market currently moves and what are the factors affecting it. good luck :)

Before you invest a dime, you should read "A Random Walk Down Wall Street " by Burton G. Malkiel. You won't regret it.

Investing is a very complex topic. Generally no matter what kind of investment you have, you must know the objective of your investment. Every single investment has its purpose. As long as you know the purpose and it suits your need, you're a lot more better the rest of the investors. Hope this helps...
