New to investing. So now what?
Ok. I just opened an Etrade account with $500 kind of expecting to not know what I'm doing and lose it. I'm totally new to investing. Any specific advice on what to do with such a small amount for now? Stock, options, bonds, mutual funds ???
I'm an adult in college: Is now the time to be investing?
I am 27. I work full time and go to school part time. Starting in 2011, I'll switch to part time work and full time schooling to become a music teacher.I don't make a huge amount of money and am paying for school with student loans. I do put $50 month in an IRA account and I have around $3,000 in a savings account earning 3 %.I try my hardest to be financially responsible, paying $50 month towards my unsubsidized loans and trying to pay off my car early.I'm afraid to play with the money I've saved because of the job market and the coming changes in my work school arrangements.E Trade is something that has come to my attention, but I don't know much about it and I am intimidated by the wealth of information available. I don't know where to start. My problem is, I'm not a money person. I'm not a big earner and I don't have much financial knowledge. I think I should be doing something with my money, but I don't know what. Should I be pushing harder to force something to happen or should I just settle for the financial arrangements I have know and wait until after school to worry about investments?

Mutual Mortgage Fund? Any other suggestions for investing 50K in Canada?
So I was going through my options for investment with someone at HSBC. I asked her about mutual funds and she told me this one was one of the most reliable ones. What do you think? Here in Canada, term deposit rates are very very low. So why not put it in a low risk mutual fund? The amount I have is around 50K and I'm planning a 3 5 year investment. What do you think? Go with it or just put it in term deposit.
Best resources RE: learning about investing?
I'm looking into putting some money into the market and I'd like to do it myself. Not looking for anything particular just yet, so everything is on the table. Long term, short term, stocks, bonds, options, say trading, etc, etc. I'm mainly looking for book titles, but if there are some non scam websites that would work too. College level textbooks are fine, I'll work my way up to that. Just show me the most informative, and or most helpful information you know of.Thanks
