Why do banks take so long to update your financial information when you make a payment?
Honestly if I had to take a poll or survey as to the number 1 reason why I canceled my bank account this would be it.The banks have the technology to verify and update financial information on our account so why don't they do that?Because of delayed updating of financial information from the bank, many Americans are concerned in using their credit cards due to the POSSIBILITY of overdraft fees...Yes the Bank has does have more customers' to tend to I get it. And yes the bank has to service thousands of customers making millions of transaction each day sure. BUT that is not an excuse considering a little thing called TECHNOLOGY. They can have real time updating they already have it trust me with all of their profits from the overdraft fees charged to customers from not updating. Why do many american hate to wait the " normal" 2 3 days to process transactions? Not because they are they broke and concerned about overdraft fees but they are concerned of the POSSIBILITY of an overdraft fee there is a difference. It's called the principle of what is right. Will processing transactions make the bank more vulnerable to mistakes or inaccurately tabulating monies? No Again, technology takes care of all of that so it's BS if that is their argument. Yes I give credit to tellers the actual bank but NOT for online banking. So can Americans then call the bank at any point in time to verify the amount they have spent? Yes, but many don't because it is a huge time waster and inconvenience due to the phone tree they have to listen to. In the end they don't do it and get charge anyways which is what the bank wants I use to work as a banker . Hence, AMERICANS BEG THE QUESTION If the bank allows you to call in to get an update on your financial information why won't they update it online? Again, to make it a huge inconvenience for you so you WON'T do it and get charged a fee.Are banks in existence to service their customers and make money for their stockholders and they don't need money from overdraft fees? This not true. A majority of their income comes from overdraft fees In 2010 they made 31 billion dollars from overdraft fees alone Not only do they take your money and use it for investments but they try to impose fees on you Lets not forget about the attempted charge on our debt cards this year.Banks are open Monday thru Friday in a normal work week, Sat and Sundays & holidays are not included for the sole purpose of devising a better strategy to make more money off of overdraft fees note 31 billion in profits from fees above . So should American's bite the bullet? No. Rather Imagine if every American walked into the bank a demanded all of their money out of the bank because of the transparent shady business practices the bank has been getting away with, what would happened? Answer the power will go back to the people and eventual they will have to update our financial information in real time. Right?
