Question: What does the term 'sales dollar' mean when used in business and finance?

I'm reading a special edition of Cutlip/ Center's 1964 book "Effective Public Relations ", and it speaks of a "breakdown of the sales dollar ". Despite searching Google and Yahoo for a definition of this, as well as several other dictionary and reference sites. All the documents I went through from Google (of the 66, 000 there are) that contained the term were referencing it, and none actually defined it. It is spoken of with regard to Gross Profit and Net Sales, and is most certainly a "dollar value " (as opposed to a percentage). What does it mean?!

The term 'Sales Dollars' refers to revenue generated from sales of a company's products, as opposed to revenue from other sources such as interest, sale of equipment, sale of a subsidiary, sale of inventory, etc.
