BPO stands for Business Process Outsourcing which means contracting out the performance of your non core activities (basically administrative or non business) to some other party who is experienced in that specific kind of service providing. So in call centre, a company outsources its customer relations function to other company which helps it to reduce the cost to the outsourcing company as it doesn't need to worry about hiring people, their payroll and other staffing activities. In my understanding BPO is bigger term and encompasses call centre too. When a company outsources other activities like, payroll, staffing activities, accounting services etc., it is referred to as BPO services whereas call centre is just related to attending inbound calls (customer support over phone) or telemarketing.
